Special Services
The St. John Police Department offers a variety of special services to support and protect our community beyond traditional policing.
Extra Watch on Patrol
If you have concerns such as domestic issues, family deaths, or disgruntled employees and would like additional patrols around your residence, please contact our department. We are here to provide extra patrols and follow-up as needed to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
Vacation Checks
Before you leave for vacation, notify our department at least 24 hours prior to your departure. We will gather emergency contact information and details about pets, mail, parked vehicles, and lights. Officers will conduct periodic checks of your residence while you are away. Please inform us immediately upon your return. You can find the St. John Police Department Vacation Listing form in both print (PDF) and online formats.
Checking on Our Residents (COORS)
The City of St. John is committed to the well-being of our residents, especially senior citizens and those with special needs. To assist us in identifying these residents, please complete a Project COOR registration form. You can pick up a form at City Hall, request one by phone (314-427-8700, ext. 5), or access the print COOR registration form (PDF). This information will help us contact you during power outages or natural disasters, providing water, transportation to climate-controlled shelters, and notifying relatives of your whereabouts and needs. Your personal information will remain confidential within the St. John City Hall.
Bicycle Helmets
Bicycle helmets are available for purchase from the St. John Police Department for $8 each. These helmets meet all required safety standards and come in a variety of sizes and colors. By law, bicyclists under the age of 17 must wear protective headgear. Visit the police station to get a properly fitting helmet for your children, with assistance from an officer.
The Club – Steering Wheel Lock
Anti-theft devices, known as “The Club,” are available for purchase from the Police Department for $20 each. These steering wheel locks are easy to install and make the vehicle inoperable, helping to prevent auto thefts in our community. Residents are encouraged to use these devices to safeguard their vehicles.
Free Gun Locks
The St. John Police Department offers free gun locks to promote firearm safety. Contact us for more information on how to obtain one.
Speakers for Club Functions
Our officers are available to speak at local businesses, civic, and social gatherings. Topics can include crime prevention, senior citizen scams, community policing, and K-9 operations. Organizations such as businesses, churches, and senior groups often utilize this service. Contact us to arrange for a speaker at your next event.
St. John Police College Scholarship Program
We support the educational aspirations of our community’s youth through the St. John Police College Scholarship Program. Graduating seniors from Ritenour High School and any St. John resident ready to graduate from a local high school can apply for scholarships. Funded through various fundraising events and community partnerships, this program helps students further their education. Scholarship applications are available at school guidance offices.
